Mario Schönhofer
Mario Schönhofer, known as the composer and producer of the duo Ströme, is one of the pioneers in combining modular synthesizer art with traditional musicality. After studying music at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, he worked internationally for many major artists of the 1980s and 1990s.
His close collaboration with Dieter Doepfer highlights his deep roots in analog sound generation. Schönhofer also shares a close friendship with electronic music pioneer Eberhard Schoener. Schoener’s Moog IIIp from 1969 — the very instrument used by the Beatles on Abbey Road and by Giorgio Moroder for I Feel Love — was lent to Schönhofer until it was handed over to the Deutsches Museum in Munich in 2019.
His performances are a symbiosis of technology and musical sensitivity. Schönhofer is advancing the evolution of electronic music by demonstrating how modular synthesizers can unlock a unique form of compositional expression.
